Introduction
Three women's lives intersect through violence, obsession, and the unreliability of memory in this psychological thriller centred on a missing person investigation. Rachel Watson, an alcoholic divorcee, rides the train daily past her former home, now occupied by her ex-husband Tom and his new wife Anna. From the window, Rachel fixates on another couple she glimpses, imagining their perfect marriage as everything she has lost. When she witnesses the woman kissing a stranger, Rachel experiences visceral betrayal, and when that woman, Megan Hipwell, subsequently disappears, Rachel inserts herself into the investigation, driven by projection, obsession, and a desperate need for purpose.
